day and night

day and night outfit change, yo.

day:

(I had a blazer for cold and/or meetings)

to night:

(I left the brown boots on because I’m the girl that loves mixing black and brown.)

Here’s another shot where you can see the whole look. All I did was change my skirt. And don’t forget to add some red lipstick.

Unless, of course, your night is less bars and more rainy errand running. In which case you might change into something like this:

Your topknot should be as big as your face, and your rain boots should be as childlike as possible. Everyone got it? Good.

craft list update

A few weeks ago, I made a list of project goals I wanted to finish in April. With six days left in the month, here’s how I’m faring.

  • Make a black and gray dress —— I am in the middle of this. Should hopefully be able to finish in the next few days.
  • knit a neon yellow vest —- I am also in the middle of this. I have finished the biggest piece:

  • enter my apartment in the apartment therapy small cool spaces contest ——- you guys know how this went! Please take a minute and vote for me if you haven’t yet (Don’t let me get last place guys, c’mon)
  • Louboutin-up a pair of shoes a la spikes and spray paint —— This I have not started but still want to do. It’s the lowest on my priorities because of the difficulty in finding a pair of shoes to do said craft on. Maybe next weekend, but if not, I won’t be too upset.

I made some Easter brownies. They came out a little messy, but they taste just fine. Delicious even. And I guess I can add this to the awesome places my nails have been.

day and night

The city is very large, and trains can be very slow. Sometimes I just don’t have time to go home and freshen up after work before I go out and play. And so day and night is born.

Go from this:

to this:

With just a quick change in the bathroom and freshening your make up you are ready to hit the town. All I did here was take off my button up (I was wearing the tank underneath) and switch out my skirt for some shorts. A not-so-secret commuter secret is to wear sandals or flats to work and switch into heels once you get to the office. So leave your heels at work, don your commuter shoes, throw your skirt and shirt into your bag and you are ready for a summer night.

I redeemed my manicure prize this past weekend. You know, from winning the Tiny Baller Apartment contest. Oh, and also for being in the Small Cool Spaces contest. (vote for me!)

I got this fabulous orange. Color is Essie’s Vermillionaire. Here’s some places my awesome-colored nails have been:

Thanks for playing, everyone.

Apartment Therapy!

My apartment got posted in the Small Cool Spaces contest! I am beyond excited. Please check it out and vote and feel free to question my (lack of) allegiance to communist leaders in the comments. But really, it’s been a blast and so nice to see people being supportive of my first decorating endeavor! Thanks so much everyone!

I been knitting, yo. I hope the neon-ness of this yarn comes through.

I have submitted my entry for Small Cool Spaces and it is supposedly still waiting for editorial review. However, this could be a great big ruse for “we’ve already looked and we aren’t posting your contest entry for people to vote on.” But I love my place, and, unfortunately, I can’t fit all the people I love into 300 square feet to see it. So, I am putting pictures up here and holding my own contest. The Tiny Baller Apartment contest.

So far I am the only entry. Competition is fierce, but I’m hoping I will come out as one of the winners here. (If you would like to enter too, hit me up. We are all winners here at Tiny Baller Apartments.) The prize for the Windsor Terrace category is a manicure, which I plan on redeeming this weekend. Check it out! Feel free to leave praise, a nice handwritten note, your own entry to Tiny Baller Apartments, a laundry list of compliments, or a friendly post it.

(If it does get posted on Apartment Therapy, I will let you know.)

I tried to have a little fun with my Birthday Fun Times outfit and bring a little spring, since the weather isn’t bringing any at all. And There was something @bergdorfs said this morning, about wearing something with a story. As I was at dinner, I realized my Birthday Fun Times outfit told a good one. The jeans I’m wearing are my favorite. I like the way they fit me, and I like how long they are. I bought them when I was traveling Europe and didn’t pack enough clothes and was desperate for a pair of jeans. We hit a few stores, and that’s what I came out with. I was in Lisbon. The jeans came with me to Madrid and London before we both went back to the U.S. My jacket is vintage Valentino, found at a flea market in Chelsea when I was shopping with the same friend whose birthday it is today. And the handwarmers were a gift, from my brother and his girlfriend. And that is a lovely story, and one I don’t mind telling with my outfit at all.

The cupcakes were beautiful. From Crumbs, and delicious. We ate them like a box of chocolates—trying each one, trading, saying which flavors were good.

And the jumbled scene of the city is from my favorite part of the F train where you can see the water and the Statue of Liberty on one side of the train and Manhattan on the other. I took the picture while the train was moving, but I wish you could have seen it with me. The city was breathtaking tonight.

You guys. I am exhausted. Like wishing-my-mom-was-here-to-bring-me-hot-chocolate-and-tell-me-it-is-all-going-to-be-ok exhausted. #fatcat and I have taken a break to lounge on the couch for a bit tonight, even though he keeps stealing my spot whenever i get up. While I was lounging, I started knitting what may or may not turn out to be a vest. Too soon to tell. I can’t wait to finish cleaning and entering #smallcoolspaces but for now, I am relaxing and enjoying my (almost) finished home. Tomorrow, I will get back to this list:

  • Make a black and gray dress
  • knit a neon yellow vest
  • enter my apartment in the apartment therapy small cool spaces contest
  • Louboutin-up a pair of shoes a la spikes and spray paint

which I think I will have to make an April list, instead of a two-week list. THIS IS THE OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT. There are just not enough hours for me to sleep and work and play and get this all done. But soon! I will get to it all soon enough. And it will be lovely.

UPDATE: ok, i couldn’t help it. I cleaned. So hopefully will be able to take pictures and enter tomorrow after my dreaded dentist appointment.

Mirrors are hung, drapes are ironed, dressers are painted. And this is the floor plan to my apartment. I’m almost ready to enter Small Cool Spaces, just need to clean and take pictures now!

apartment progress…

things aren’t ironed yet and need to be touched up, but here’s some highlights so far!

Friday, April 1, 2011

SO. Did you figure out what I’m gonna make yet? Let’s take a quiz. One of these things is not on my agenda for the next two weeks:

  • Make a black and gray dress
  • knit a neon yellow vest
  • my own special color nail polish (to contrast perfectly with neon yellow vest)
  • enter my apartment in the apartment therapy small cool spaces contest
  • Louboutin-up a pair of shoes a la spikes and spray paint

What was your guess??

OK, I’ll tell you. The nail polish. I’m not going to make my own nail polish, but now that I’ve thought of it, I really should figure out how and go ahead and do it, too.

I think I might have reached a little high in aiming to get this all done in the next two weeks, but I’ve made some progress and have (almost) all my supplies.

see progress:

I went supply shopping. Can you guess what things I’m making? (Taken with instagram)
